We meet every Wednesday night 7:30pm – 10:00pm except for a Christmas break which will be advertised. Irish Set dancing classes run every week with Marie Brouder, everyone (even people with two left feet) welcome. Joan and Ray Mundy’s Irish sessions run 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month. Slow sessions with the fabulous Lionel Holt run 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month. Anyone is welcome to come and see what we’re all about, come and dance or play some tunes or just listen and get a magnificent supper afterwards.
Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann was founded by musicians in 1951 to promote Irish traditional music and the first Fleadh Cheoil was organised in Mullingar, County Weatmeath. Within a few years, this had become a National Festival attended by thousands of traditional musicians, singers and dancers from all over Ireland and soon also from overseas.
Branches of Comhaltas have formed in every county in Ireland and also abroad, organising classes, concerts, and sessions in local communities. Comhaltas is now a world-wide organisation, with active branches in the United States, Britain, Canada, Japan and elsewhere. In fact, there are hundreds of branches in 15 countries on 4 continents and very vibrant branches in Melbourne, Perth, Sydney and Canberra and more recently in Adelaide.
